Testimonials

“From a parent’s perspective, Gerald Reid is a kind, understanding, and compassionate therapist. He was able to hold a very safe space for my two boys during a challenging time through family divorce. Gerald always kept healthy boundaries and was able to maintain professionalism at all times. At a critical time in my children’s lives, he was a positive and honest adult who helped them navigate the challenges of divorce. Forever grateful to Gerald!”
“Dr. Reid has a wise and sensitive approach, he chooses his words carefully inviting you to be present in a unified collaboration that is mindful and challenging; silence and stillness are welcome amidst a chaotic mind or grieving heart. The work is hard and partnership is strong right from the start.”
“We first reached out to Dr. Reid when our son was struggling with anxiety and depression related to school and sports. From the start, he created a space where our son felt safe, understood, and never judged. He gave him practical tools to manage anxious thoughts, handle pressure, and rebuild confidence in himself. Through his guidance, our son learned how to face challenges instead of avoiding them. What impressed me most was his ability to connect in a way that felt natural and genuine, not clinical or forced. Over time, we watched our son grow from an overwhelmed child into a resilient and self-aware young man. He helped him not only survive difficult seasons but truly mature and find his footing again. Our son still checks in with him today, years later, because that relationship means so much to him. As a mother, I am deeply grateful for the patience, wisdom, and consistency he has offered our family. I would encourage any parent who is worried about their child’s emotional well-being to reach out, because his support can truly change a young person’s life.”
“Working with Dr. Reid over the past year has been incredibly valuable for my child as a student-athlete. His calm, supportive approach helped our son strengthen his mental game in competitive sports while also giving him tools to manage school stress and everyday challenges. Dr. Reid has a wonderful ability to listen without judgment, help my son understand the root of his feelings, and guide them toward practical strategies he can use. We’ve seen meaningful growth in confidence, resilience, and overall well-being. We’re very grateful for the positive impact this work has had.”
“I have worked with Dr. Reid the past few years and it has really been a great experience. He has helped grow my confidence and handle pressure better. Dr. Reid is easy to talk to and has given me tools to help me perform my best. I would recommend him to any athlete looking to get stronger mentally.”
“Talking with Dr Reid allows me to fully acknowledge how I’m feeling about a certain thing going on in life and also helps to get things off of my chest. Having everything written down near the end of each session helps to put everything into perspective. It gives me the room to go through whatever I’m feeling rationally and articulate it in whatever way I need to.”
“Dr Reid has shown the utmost care with working with my child/myself for the past 5 + years and now in college. His expertise with anxiety-related disorders and ADHD was what brought us to work with him. His approach with my daughter has been very warm and relatable and his assessments and recommendations have been 'spot on'. We have weathered-family issues including a high-conflict divorce and he has helped with many, many others including competitive sports, school challenges, social issues/navigating friendships. Further, Dr Reid values parent observations/ input and responds quickly to concerns brought to his attention. Highly Recommend!”
“Dr. Reid’s approach to counseling is unlike any other. As someone who has struggled with finding the right professional to help me navigate my emotions, choosing to spend the last seven years with Dr. Reid has been one of the best decisions I have made. In short, Dr. Reid has made living with chronic neurological disorders seem like such a small fraction of who I am, as he continually emphasizes the growth I have made, regardless of my struggles. Dr. Reid has undoubtedly changed my life in the best way possible.”
“Dr Reid is exceptional. His empathetic approach created a safe space for our son, a 3 sport student athlete, to learn how to share and manage his emotions. Dr Reid also helped our family navigate an ADHD diagnosis while helping our son to boost his self-esteem.”
“I have been working with Doctor Reid for about three years and over that time he has helped me understand myself better. As a student-athlete, he has helped me improve my mindset and mindfulness regarding my demanding athletic and academic commitments. He was interested and compassionate from the beginning, and quickly earned my trust. I have grown a lot as a result of my conversations with him.”
“Our daughter is a good student and an empathetic friend who also deals with anxiety, depression, executive function challenges and ADHD. Prior to working with the Reids, her “coping” strategy was to hide her struggles at school as best she could while being angry and defiant at home without being able to explain why. With the support of the Reids, she has learned to understand and articulate her feelings, advocate for herself, celebrate her strengths and feel less ashamed about her weaknesses, all while navigating the social and academic challenges of middle and high school during Covid and its aftermath. Opening up in therapy was not easy for her but thanks to relationships of mutual trust and respect she has developed with both Dr Reid and Alexis, she has made enormous progress in being able to deal with difficult situations, knowing when to ask for help, and figuring out what strategies do and do not work for her.”

“Dr. Reid is an incredible therapist who has helped me get through the toughest of times and maintain my happiness during the good times. Through his use of cognitive behavioral therapy, he helped me work through social anxiety, self-image issues, and substance use issues. He has genuinely changed my life with his expertise and guided me through my college experience, planning for my future, and finding satisfaction in everyday life. The lessons and strategies he has taught me will remain with me for the rest of my life, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for therapy.”
“Working with Dr. Reid was exactly what I needed. He helped guide me through a time when I had a lot of difficult decisions to make. He did this not by mapping it out for me but by allowing me to find my own answers through insightful conversations and probing, guiding questions. I can't thank him enough.”
“Dr Reid offers a genuine, kind, and meaningful collaboration that has radically changed the way I interact with the world. I feel very grateful to be able to work with him, and have greatly benefited from his humanistic CBT approach”
"Working with Dr Reid has been life changing for me! He always does a great job of listening to what I'm going through, and offering real actionable steps for growth and recovery. My mental health has become much stronger during our time working together."
“For me, therapy has helped by providing a safe space to work through my emotions one-on-one and come out of sessions with a better understanding of myself. It's also provided a space where I can talk about things I wouldn't have felt comfortable bringing up otherwise, which has been really important for my personal growth.”
“Miracles, some say they exist and some say they don't. Those who deny miracles, I say, should strongly consider speaking with Dr. Gerald Reid. From a lost alcoholic and drug user in college with little to no trust from his parents, to sober and developing loving relationships with those who he cares about most, Dr. Gerald Reid is my miracle. Found while desperately struggling with just about everything, Dr. Gerald Reid took those struggles and transformed them into strengths. From frequent 1-on-1 meetings each week with the two of us, to joined sessions with family once a week, Dr. Gerald Reid took what I thought was broken beyond repair and rebuilt it all. Dr. Gerald Reid, over the course of many meaningful sessions where he listened intently to all sides without any personal bias, put me on the right track to eventually achieving full sobriety, restored the lost trust with my loved ones, and made me remember the person I once was and realize the person I want to become. So, if you think miracles don't exist, pick up that phone, or send that email. Dr. Gerald Reid will answer the call and place your needs above all else. My family and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to meet, work with, and eventually stay connected with Dr. Gerald Reid.”
“I worked with Dr. Reid during some very trying times in my life, including the pressures of D1 athletics. He helped me manage anxiety, stress, and fear, while also guiding me toward a deeper understanding of myself. Through our work together, I rediscovered who I am and developed a more grounded, confident sense of self.”
“Both Gerald Reid (and Alexis) have had a positive influence on my life. Their support has been unparalleled. Alexis has helped me think and plan my weeks out which has made my life so much more efficient. Gerald has helped me understand myself and my thoughts better, which has allowed me to be more confident and self-aware. Meeting with them during the week is definitely a highlight I look forward to every time. I would not be the person I am today without their help. If you are looking to improve mentally, whether it is from an executive function standpoint or mental health standpoint, both Reids are excellent at what they do. Could not ask for a better duo/team.”
“Dr Reid has been such an incredible person to get to work with, he has helped me tremendously throughout the year with my confidence on and off the field. I used to struggle with letting pressure and mistakes take over me he’s helped me see that there are ways I can handle and acknowledge it will still being able to have fun while playing my sport.”
-
“Dr. Reid is a fantastic person and professional. He is highly effective at providing counsel and guidance for both navigating challenges as well as achieving performance. Dr. Reid provides a strong balance of compassion and empathetic accountability as it relates to addressing what is in front of someone. I have been meeting with him for 5 years and I highly suggest him to anyone who is interested in his services.”
"I can confidently say that working with Dr. Reid has changed my life in so many ways. During a difficult period of my life, I searched around for a therapist and the first few I encountered did not feel very supportive, leaving me with an uncertain feeling. It wasn't until I met Dr. Reid that I realized what a great therapist should be - he was welcoming, non-judgmental in the way he listened and asked questions, and able to reassure but also gently challenge me every step of my journey. He also regularly checked in with me between sessions, which showed that he was available and truly cared. Since then, I've learned how to navigate and appreciate life's big and small challenges and am extremely grateful for all the growth that I've achieved working with Dr. Reid."
"I highly recommend working with Dr Reid. Every session I have with him offers new insights and opportunities to grow. Working with him, I've learned how to work through my anxiety, get in touch with my emotions, and grow as a person."
“Working with Gerald has been extremely impactful. I came to him struggling with anxiety and depression, and through his steady guidance, insight, and compassion, I’ve developed tools that to help me navigate daily life with more confidence and clarity. He creates a space that feels both supportive and empowering.”
“I came to Dr. Reid skeptical about therapy but seeking support and hoping to make a change. Dr. Reid helped me peel back the layers of what I thought my problems were to discover what was really happening underneath, and explore the root. His calm and present nature made it easy to open up and explore my feelings—something I really used to struggle with. Since working with Dr. Reid, people have noticed my improved ability to communicate my feelings, and for providing a space for others to feel comfortable sharing. What I appreciate most is that he never told me what to do; instead, he empowered me to find my own answers by challenging me to think in different ways. He didn't just help me solve a problem; he helped me understand myself on a deeper level. Now, I feel confident that when I’m met with a new challenge, I have the tools to handle it and work through whatever I may need to. Although we no longer work together, I continue to use the skills I gained from him almost every day. I couldn’t recommend Dr. Reid more highly.”
“I am not someone who was comfortable with seeking therapy. In fact, I dismissed the idea immediately, no matter how often my wife suggested it. I always just figured I was just a little anxious, and not sleeping at night wasn't a big deal. Working with Gerry literally changed my life - for someone who didn't want to talk or even know how to talk, Gerry was just a kind and understanding ear. A place where I was comfortable being fully honest with myself, learning to verbalize thoughts I probably didn't realize I even had. Over time, he helped me come to understand myself better and helped me build skills and strategies to cope with things that formerly made me wildly anxious. My only regret is that I hadn't started working with him early in my life!”
“Gerald has been a constant presence in my life over the last 8 years. He’s seen me through growth and hardship, and has supported me ceaselessly through my processes of healing, self-actualization, and developing vital life skills. The effort he’s put into knowing me and supporting me through anything that life throws at me has truly been a blessing. I am incredibly grateful to have the privilege to work with him.”

“I have worked closely with Jerry for the past seven to eight years - first as a therapist with whom Belmont Hill students could work individually, then as an on-site counselor supporting several high level athletes, and now as our clinical consultant on campus. In this role, Jerry works with members of the school health team, speaks to parent groups, and is a general resource to teachers and coaches.
When I describe Jerry to prospective families, I often say he is the rare sports psychologist who emphasizes psychology over sports. He has a remarkable ability to connect with our boys and speak in depth about any sport while also bringing experience, knowledge and wisdom into each counseling session. He has supported Division I football players dealing with stress and anxiety while also forming meaningful connections with younger boys grieving the loss of a family member or struggling with social isolation.
Jerry’s kind, direct approach is a wonderful fit for many of our students and I look forward to many more years of working together to support boys at Belmont Hill.”

“Working with Alexis has helped me develop strong executive function skills that will benefit me in school now and in the future. She has helped me become a more descriptive and detailed writer. She always pushes me and supports me to do the best work I can. I have grown as a student and as a person during my years working with her.”
-8th grader
“I have worked with Alexis for quite a while, and it has been incredibly helpful. While I learned many concepts, what has shocked me the most was what I learned about myself. I recommend working with Alexis to everyone, no matter how well you are doing, she will find a way to help."
-8th grader
“Alexis has been such a huge help throughout my college application process. She’s made everything feel way less overwhelming and helped me figure out what’s truly best for me. She also made it so much easier to organize my thoughts and share everything I wanted to say in my application.
She always starts our sessions by checking in and asking about things I’ve mentioned being stressed about before, which makes me feel really heard. She gives me helpful, real-life strategies too — like setting boundaries with people and calling out my anxious thoughts before I start spiraling. I’m really grateful for all the support and guidance she’s given me.”

“Alexis is so kind. Her accepting and nonjudgmental attitude made it much easier for me to be honest about what I had and hadn’t done. That allowed me to reassess what was most important and focus on that.”

"“I’ve worked with Ms. Reid in fourth grade and again at different stages of my life, focusing on strategic learning, mindfulness, and executive function skills. She has transformed my life in so many ways, and I feel incredibly lucky to still have her in my life today.
While she has always been my coach, in many ways she has been so much more. We worked on math skills and reading comprehension, and she helped my writing skills truly blossom. She is the definition of a coach who is kind, supportive, and grounding–always encouraging reflection on where you started and how far you’ve come. Before working with her, I had never learned mindfulness, and she taught me how breathing and calmness could slow down the constant hustle and the pressure I put on myself to be perfect.
Ms. Reid took the time to analyze my strengths and use them to address my weaknesses. I can confidently say that without her guidance–and without learning to truly trust myself and the process, even when growth was hard–I wouldn’t be the person I am today. The thoughtfulness I bring to every decision traces back to her: someone who taught me how to be gracious with myself and feel confident in every task I take on. Ms. Reid will always be one of the best decisions my parents made for me growing up, and that remains true today.
I’m now in college at Cornell University, and whenever I’m back in town, we catch up over coffee, which shows the meaningful and lasting relationships she builds with those she works with. Ms. Reid is more than just a name, and that speaks volumes about who she is as a person and a coach. Anyone who has had the opportunity to work with her would say the same. Everyone needs a Ms. Reid in their life, and I am grateful to have had her in mine. It is safe to say there is only one Ms. Reid–a strong woman and coach who truly does not come around in every lifetime.”

“As a team, the Reids have had a positive influence on my life. Their support has been unparalleled. Alexis has helped me plan my weeks, which has made my life much more efficient and intentional. Gerald has helped me understand myself and my thoughts better, allowing me to be more confident and self-aware. Meeting with them during the week is definitely a highlight I look forward to every time. I would not be the person I am today without their help. If you are looking to improve mentally, whether it is from an executive function standpoint or a mental health standpoint, both Reids are excellent at what they do. “I first met Alexis and my senior year of high school and to be honest at first I thought she wouldn't be much help. I didn't realize how important it was to master my organizational skills and have a clear plan. Since working with her, I've learned to manage my time efficiently and be much more independent.Another great thing about Alexis is that, no matter how difficult something may seem, she never puts you down and always offers positive feedback on how you can improve. She's very down-to-earth and upbeat, making her sessions engaging and never dull. She develops unique plans for each of her students and continues to check in with them years after they're no longer her clients.
It was great working with someone who really understands how my brain works and finds strategies to make ADHD my strength instead of seeing it as an obstacle in my path. My experience working with Alexis has been nothing but positive.”
-Young Adult
“I worked with Alexis for several years during college. Alexis held onto hope for me that I could change for the better. When I felt particularly miserable, Alexis prescribed a mini dance break to Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, which ended in a fit of giggles. With Alexis, I wasn't left to figure it out alone. One of my favorite pieces of work that I did with Alexis was identifying the pieces of my life that felt boring and tailoring them to be better tolerated. All I really wanted was to feel like I could get through my day. At the beginning of my work with Alexis, I had no space in my brain to hold the possibility that my life could improve.
Working with Alexis was a collaborative process where my voice was valued, encouraged, and cherished. As I worked with Alexis, she made me feel like I had something good to offer the world. Alexis taught me how to break down tasks into steps I could tackle. She helped me get back in touch with the reasons I wanted to complete college. I remember telling Alexis I couldn't do my homework and she approached my resistance with curiosity and compassion. She cheered me on. I found her willingness to meet me where I was at very refreshing.
Alexis was on top of the latest opportunities for ways to make learning more accessible. I remember when she created a virtual habit tracker to help me understand the connection between self care and academics. She got excited when I accomplished the smallest tasks because she understood that everything was like pulling teeth when I was in the depths of depression. Alexis was a grounding force in turbulent times.
I still remember her speaking to my inner perfectionist when she said it was better to submit an imperfect assignment because a grade of 80% was simply good enough. She helped me see that taking eons of time away from other parts of my life in exchange for a slightly higher grade would not serve me. Alexis helped me prioritize what was most important to me, with an eye towards what would benefit me most long term.”
-Young Adult
"As a young professional out of college, I had developed a lot of the knowledge , but I was completely out of my depth when it came to organization, task management, and scheduling. I suffered a great deal from task paralysis, and often dug myself into sizable holes with procrastination. Alexis helped me triage in managing my existing pile, but more importantly helped me build my executive functioning skills from the ground up. She scaffolded my skills from a very basic level, going all the way from scheduling daily tasks to now, in my new career, teaching multiple classrooms full of teenagers. I am now three years into a career requiring high levels of executive functioning skills, and couldn't be happier. Throughout the process, Alexis continually gave me honest feedback with kindness and compassion."
-Young adult
“The most powerful thing I took away from the group was the combination of helpful professional instruction and being understood by my peers. The power of connecting with people about things that are frustrating and being heard and understood, while also learning new tactics to improve makes for great confidence building and success!”-Former College Group member

“Working with Alexis and the support she has provided was a turning point in my adult journey. Navigating Executive Function as an adult can feel overwhelming, but Alexis provides a rare and essential bridge between practical learning strategies and genuine mental health support. She helped me shift my perspective—to stop seeing my functional challenges as character flaws and start seeing them as a roadmap for how my brain actually works. Her holistic approach has allowed me to dismantle the shame often associated with productivity and replace it with self-awareness and sustainable tools. As an ongoing source of support, Alexis has been invaluable in helping me thrive both professionally and personally.”

“Alexis is the consummate inclusive learning professional. From being a guest on the Reid-ConnectED podcast to co-presenting at national and international conferences, she's a joy to collaborate with because you know she'll always contribute top-notch insights to any conversation about human potential and performance. Alexis approaches her work with curiosity, humility, and compassion, ensuring all voices are heard and have a place at the table. She epitomizes what it means to design truly inclusive learning experiences. Her work also always includes practical recommendations that make a true difference for learners, their families, and the greater inclusive learning community.”
-Collaborator, co-presenter, author, & podcast guest
"Working in a few different capacities with Alexis has been incredibly grounding and affirming.
What stands out most is how Alexis listens, not just to respond, but to truly understand. Alexis leans in, creates space, and makes people feel heard in a way that is rare. That sense of safety allows real growth to happen. Alexis helps translate complex executive functioning challenges into practical, compassionate strategies that feel hopeful and doable. I’ve walked away from our conversations and her work with clearer insight into my own patterns and tools I can return to again and again.
I’ve also personally witnessed the impact of Alexis’s work with educators. Alexis’s book has been a powerful resource. I’ve seen teachers light up when they realize they’re not “failing,” they’re simply learning how to design environments that support executive functioning. Alexis gives language and structure to experiences people often struggle to explain, and that alone is transformative.
Alexis models empathy and clarity at the same time. Alexis is supportive without ever being prescriptive, instructive without being overwhelming, and deeply respectful of the vulnerability it takes to do this work.
I’m grateful to have witnessed many times the way Alexis shows up for individuals, for educators, and for the broader learning community."

“If you’re fortunate, you will find a select few people in your life, who for reasons unknown, possess a profound empathy and care for others.
Alexis is one of those exceptional humans whom I first encountered around our shared passion for creating more accessible learning environments with UDL.
She is curious, positive, inquisitive, calm, genuine, non-judgmental and to work with her is an invitation to a process of discovery, creativity and growth.
In a fast-paced world wrought with dysfunction, Alexis is the most reliable source of brightness, of intelligence, of goodness.”

“As a parent, it’s a huge relief to know that Alexis is helping my daughter build executive functioning skills and make steady progress on her priorities and goals. Our relationship has become much less stressful, and I can focus on encouraging and supporting my daughter instead of battling over getting things done. My daughter trusts Alexis and knows she genuinely cares about her success.”
-Parent of a college-aged learner
“We first sought assistance for our oldest son as writing is not something we (his parents) are adept at, and felt that support could help put his thoughts into organized prose. Alexis helped him take the time to approach a problem properly, create a timeline, and tease out his strengths in a gentle yet accountable way. We had so much success with writing help that she also worked with our younger son for writing, and both of them to develop skills and strategies for their middle school entry test prep. All along the way, she helped minimize the frustration and friction that often come when parents help their children with schoolwork. She helped both of our boys ground and guide themselves to be the best versions of themselves, both in and out of the classroom.
Our oldest is now a freshman at an Ivy League school, and we can credit Alexis with helping build a strong foundation of learning. We have recommended her to many families over the years, who have been equally grateful.”
-Parent of a middle and high school learner
“Alexis provided our son with extensive executive functioning support. She treated him as an individual and customized solutions to fit his short term and long term needs. Alexis is extremely thoughtful, creative and dedicated to the success of her clients. We feel grateful to have worked with her.”
-Parent of a then college-aged learner
“I'm not sure we would have survived the COVID quarantine without Alexis! Our boys, ages 13 and 16, started to work with Alexis then and still do. She is the best thing that has happened to our family and our boys' education.
She is a true partner and connects in a deep and meaningful way. The boys trust her implicitly, and so do we. Alexis uses her advanced knowledge and exceptional skills to help them develop their academic strengths while also helping them acknowledge and address areas where they need support.
She works on skills ranging from executive functioning (organization and planning), writing, reading, and enrichment. We have seen immense growth and maturity from both of our boys. The skills she has taught them have also shaped how they see and interact with their community and beyond.
They have developed the confidence to be problem-solvers, to expand on their ideas and thoughts, and to face challenges head-on. We are grateful for her partnership and insight.”
-Parent of a middle and high school learner
“Alexis has been a tremendous source of support for our family. She not only helped our son develop and fine-tune his executive function skills, she also provided helpful parenting advice. Her thoughtful, goal-oriented approach and exceptional communication skills made all the difference. Between the weekly updates to the slide deck that she and our son developed, and regular emails and parent meetings, it felt like a true collaboration. Alexis knew exactly how to connect with our son from the beginning and they quickly developed a strong rapport. She helped him build confidence in himself and grow his skills inside and outside the classroom. Alexis kept their sessions fun and engaging, and always encouraged our son to email her with updates in between their sessions. She understood when and how to challenge him, and increased his exposure to more rigorous math and writing content. Alexis went above and beyond to support our family. We are truly grateful for all that Alexis has done to help set up our son for success in high school and beyond.”
